Classica HD


Born in 1969, from Bergamo, Paolo Gavazzeni graduated in piano at the G. Donizetti Conservatory in Bergamo and graduated in Law from the State University of Milan with a thesis on the working relationship between opera companies and the artistic masses.

After four years of professional experience as Artistic Director of the Tele+ 3 Classica television channel, in 2000 he held the role of Artistic Coordinator of the course for orchestra professors at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala.

In 2002 he was called to be part of the Artistic Direction of the Teatro alla Scala with the title of Head of Musical Services with particular attention to the management of the orchestra. From 2005 until the end of 2011, again at the Teatro alla Scala, he held the position of Manager of the daily activities of the Theatre. In those years he had the opportunity to follow, from the first rehearsal until the performance, all the opera productions, ballets and symphony concerts, working alongside the great masters and directors who worked in the Teatro alla Scala in those years.

From 2012 to 2016 he held the position of Artistic Director at the Fondazione Arena di Verona and from November of the same year, 2016, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Classica HD television channel, broadcast on the Sky television platform, Canale 136 for which he hosts the Profession Theater program.

From the artistic partnership with Piero Maranghi several opera directions take shape, including the most recent La Traviata by Verdi at the Teatro Bellini in Catania (April 2021), Da Ponte & Friends at the Teatro Olimpico Vicenza (June 2021), La Bohème by Puccini at Teatro Regio of Turin (inauguration of the 2022 Opera and Ballet Season), Pagliacci by Leoncavallo at the Teatro Lirico of Cagliari (June 2022), Don Giovanni by Mozart at the Teatro Comunale of Sassari (October 2022), La Cenerentola by Rossini at the Theater Carlo Felice of Genoa (November 2022), Adriana Lecouvreur of Cilea at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania (March 2023), Il Tabarro by Puccini at the Teatro Filarmonico of Verona (November 2023) and La Cenerentola at the Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi of Trieste and at the Teatro New John of Udine (April, May 2024).

In 2023 he was appointed Artistic Director of the Macerata Opera Festival 2024, in its 60th edition.
